Edward was born into a family of wealth and privilege. His father was a successful merchant, and his mother came from a noble family. Edward was raised to believe that he had a duty to his family and to his country. He was expected to follow in his father's footsteps and become a successful businessman.

But Edward had other dreams. He wanted to be a poet. He loved to read and write, and he dreamed of one day publishing his own work. He knew that his father would never approve of his dream, so he kept it a secret.

Edward met Mary at a party one night. She was beautiful and intelligent, and she shared Edward's love of poetry. They fell in love quickly, and soon they were engaged to be married.

But Edward's father was furious when he heard about the engagement. He forbade Edward from marrying Mary, and he threatened to disown him if he did. Edward was torn between his duty to his family and his love for Mary.

In the end, Edward chose love. He married Mary in a secret ceremony, and they ran away together. They lived in poverty for several years, but they were happy. They had two children, and they were a close-knit family.

But one day, Edward's father died. Edward was now the head of the family, and he had a duty to return home and take care of his mother and his siblings. He left Mary and their children behind, and he returned home.

Edward was a good son and brother. He took care of his family, and he helped them to rebuild their lives. But he never forgot Mary and his children. He wrote to them every week, and he visited them whenever he could.

Mary and Edward's children grew up to be fine young people. They were proud of their father, and they loved him very much. They knew that he had made a difficult choice, but they understood that he had done it out of love for them.

Edward lived a long and happy life. He was a successful businessman, and he was a devoted husband and father. He never forgot Mary, and he always kept her in his heart.

Duty and Affection is a tale of love, loyalty, and sacrifice. It shows that duty is important, but that love is even more important. It teaches that we should never give up on our dreams, and that we should always follow our hearts.
